Douglas J. Edwardson, 65, of Elk Point, passed away Dec. 23, 2013, after a lengthy courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Interment will be in Lone Tree Cemetery, Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
He was born on Aug. 9, 1948, in Sioux Rapids, to Carl and Julia (Wilbur) Edwardson. He excelled in football at Sioux Rapids Community Schools and graduated in 1966.
He married Sheila Galbraith in Spencer, Iowa, on Dec. 23, 1967. To this union, two sons were born. He worked at Johnson’s DX in Sioux Rapids, High Grade Foods in Storm Lake, Iowa, was a machinist at Arnold Motor Supply in Spencer for several years, and owned Edwardson and Sons Repair in Sioux Rapids. He finished his career as a regional sales manager at DCS Sanitation Services, out of Cincinnati, Ohio.
In his spare time, his passion was racing and building racing motors. Being one of the best motor builders in the Midwest, no one could get more out of a motor than Doug. He spent many hours laboring and racing with his sons. He enjoyed spending time with his family and granddaughters, and his beloved Golden Retriever, Jake. Doug will be forever loved and deeply missed.
Survivors include his sons, Jason (Amy) Edwardson of Ames, Iowa, and Matt (Robin) Edwardson of Sioux City; their mother, Sheila Edwardson of Rembrandt, Iowa; grandchildren, Kate, Kylie, and Brooke of Ames, and Shelby and Sarah Edwardson of Sioux City; a sister, Darlene (Larry) Spiess of Alta, Iowa; two brothers, Dennis Edwardson of Sioux Rapids, and Dave (Elaine) Edwardson of Ringstad, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Linda Edwardson of Spencer; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Doris (Lameris) Lindlief; and a brother, Don Edwardson.
