SIOUX CITY | Douglas Hinrickson, 67, of Sioux City died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at his home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. James United Methodist Church, with the Rev Ryan Christenson officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Doug was born on Aug. 26, 1945, in Mapleton, Iowa, the son of John and Dora (Kenny) Hinrickson. He was raised there and graduated from Mapleton High School. He continued his education at Empire College, where he graduated with honors. Doug joined the U.S. Navy and served during the Vietnam War.
He married Sylvia Langendorfer on Oct. 23, 1971, in Worthington, Minn. They made their home in Sioux City. Doug worked at Horner Waldorf Company, MidAmerican Energy for more than 28 years, and after his retirement, at Hy-Vee.
Doug was a member of St. James United Methodist Church and the American Legion Morningside Post 697. He enjoyed watching basketball, softball and volleyball games. He also liked to watch movies.
Survivors include his wife, Sylvia Hinrickson of Sioux City; two sons, Jeffrey Hinrickson and Gwen Margeas of St. Paul, Minn., and Chad and Reginia Hinrickson of Woodbridge, Va.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Darlene and Jack Collins of Springfield, Mo., and Diane and Matt Sabaliaskas of Kansas City, Mo.; and a brother, Donald Hinrickson of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Donna Knutson; brother-in-law, Richard Knutson; and sister-in-law, Betty Hinrickson.
