Douglas J. Perera

Douglas Joe Perera, 62, of Sioux City passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015, at his home surrounded by his family, after battling cancer for almost four years.
A celebration of life service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. The Rev. Merrill Muller will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m, at the funeral home.
Doug was born on April 26, 1953, in Los Angeles, Calif., the son of Jerry and JoAnn (Morehead) Perera. Doug graduated from East High School in 1972, where he was active in numerous sports.
Doug was united in marriage in 1970 to Kathy Ouelette in South Sioux City and this union was blessed with three children. Later Doug met his lifetime partner of 23 years, Karolyn "Sis" Whipple. During his lifetime, he worked at Tastee Inn & Out, Swift, Armour, American Freight, Jack Pinney, and PCI. He also established his own company, Perera Express, and was a proud supporter of the Robinhood Fund.
Doug enjoyed watching football, playing cribbage, fishing, boating and gambling, in particular playing poker with the guys at WinnaVegas and the Corner Pocket. When at home, he enjoyed his many fish aquariums.
Doug is survived by his partner, Sis; his father, Jerry Perera and companion, Darlene; brothers, Robert "Bob" and his partner, Julie, Don (Colleen), Ron (Jessica), Rick and his partner, Mikki, Steve, Kenny (Joanie), and Larry (Vickie); daughter, Brenda Miller and her partner, Dan Wieling; sons, Mark and his fiancee, Shelly Holtz, and Tim (Connie) Perera; stepchildren, James (Tracy) Litzenberger Jr., Brandon Litzenberger and his partner, Autumn Dabney, Kari (Dyron) Mozak, and Coreen Whipple and her partner, Dave Hilton; 17 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother, JoAnn.
Doug was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all. He will be missed by all whose life he touched and who shared his love.
