Douglas "Doug" Potts, 67, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at his residence in Sioux City, IA.
A Celebration of Doug’s Life will be 7:00 pm Monday, November 20, 2017, at Stoney Creek Hotel and Convention Center with visitation one hour prior. Christy-Smith Funeral Home, Morningside, assisted the family with arrangements.
Douglas E. “Doug” Potts, the son of Earl and Merle (Misfeldt) Potts was born February 23, 1950 in Sioux City, IA. He graduated from East High School in 1968, and went on to graduate from Morningside College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Economics. Doug worked for his father at Pott’s Sales Company and then was the Assistant Purchaser for the City of Sioux City. In 1992, he opened Signs By Tomorrow with Joan Fickler.
Doug was the president of the Friends of the Sioux City Police Department, a member of the Marine Emergency Response Team, and trained trackers and volunteers for Project Lifesaver. He graduated from the Citizens Academy of the Sioux City Police Department, was a member of the Community Emergency Response Team (C.E.R.T.), and was a volunteer with the Police Department since 2006. Doug served on the Board of Directors for the American Red Cross, was an Instructor Trainer for CPR and advanced First Aid, was past president of the Siouxland Amateur Radio Association, and a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Doug greatly enjoyed Emergency Response Work and using his Ham Radio.
Doug is survived by a multitude of friends and relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents.
