Buck was born on June 19, 1932, in Hartington, Neb., to Alfred and Lucille (Johns) Miller. Buck graduated from East High School, then attended and graduated from Morningside College, where he was honored as an All American football player. In 2012, he was inducted into the Morningside College Hall of Fame. Following college, Buck enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. Along with his three brothers, he established Miller Bros. Furniture. Buck was an outstanding entrepreneur, he focused on leadership and training others to become successful. His passion was home building, design, and landscaping. And out of that passion, came Ruth's Mexican restaurant, which happily served Siouxland for 38 years.
Buck enjoyed duck hunting, the great outdoors, dancing, and traveling. He was a loving husband to his wife and best friend, Patty, they were rarely seen apart. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren who fondly called him "Papa Buck." His family and friends knew Buck best for his humor, wisdom, and great storytelling.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Patty, North Sioux City; Buck's children, Mary, Jim, Charlie, Joe, Bill, and Ann; Patty's children, Beau (Amy) Rose of Elk Point, S.D., and Judd (Natasha) Rose of Omaha; four grandchildren, Alexis, Jacob, Bailee, and Mikaylah (Beau and Amy); Buck's sister, Ellen Trobaugh of Sioux City; a brother, Joe Miller of Hawaii; and numerous nieces and nephews.
