WESTFIELD, Iowa -- Duane Hugh Clifton, 79, of Westfield died Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Inc., with the Rev. Charity Potter of the Unity Parish of Wakefield, Neb., and niece of the deceased, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post of Akron, Iowa. Mr. Clifton was born on Feb. 7, 1931, in Sioux City, the son of Guy and Henrietta (Kroonemeyer) Clifton. He was raised in Sioux City and attended Leeds High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953, stationed in Korea.
He married Bernice Gagnon on Nov. 17, 1950, in Sioux City. The family moved to Westfield in 1967. Duane was employed as a machinist at Sioux Tools until 1993. He also farmed until 1996.
He was a member of the American Legion, Albert E. Hoschler Post 183 of Akron, Iowa, and was a member of A.A.R.P. Duane enjoyed traveling and collecting antiques. He also enjoyed his vegetable garden and spoiling his farm cats.
Survivors include his wife, Bernice Clifton of Westfield; two daughters, Patricia Siebens and her husband, Michael of Le Mars, Iowa, and Christine Weis and her friend, Paul Dodd of Easton, Kan.; a granddaughter, Natalie Siebens of Le Mars; a brother, Jack Clifton and his wife, Dolly of Vista, Calif.; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bruce Clifton.
Pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Post of Akron.
