LAWTON, Iowa -- E. Lloyd Lighthall, formerly of Lawton, died Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010, at Bright Kavanaugh Hospice in Des Moines.
Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Monday, December 27, 2010 at Community Presbyterian Church, Lawton with Pastor Cyndy Ripperger officiating. Burial will be in Banner Township Cemetery, Lawton. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City.
Lloyd was born March 19, 1922, the son of Ralph and Maude (Willer) Lighthall. He grew up on their farm near Lawton.
Following graduation from Lawton High School, he married Rosemary Thomsen of Cumberland on Oct. 6, 1944. They made their home in the Lawton area. He was a farmer for much of his life. He was recognized for his soil conservation efforts on the Elandsee Farm near Lawton.
Lloyd was an active leader at Lawton Community Presbyterian Church for many years. A loving father with a keen sense of humor, he drew strongly from his Christian faith. He enjoyed camping, cycling and reading. Highlighted by a trip to Europe in 1990, the couple loved to travel. He demonstrated his love of the natural world through his participation in the Iowa Sierra Club, Loess Hills Audubon Society and National Wildlife Federation.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary Lighthall of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; two daughters, Susan (Mark) Ackelson of Des Moines, and Joyce (Randy) Howard of Midland, Mich.; a son, David Lighthall of Fresno, Calif.; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Linda; a brother, Glenn Lighthall; and a sister, Lucille Sieger.
