Earl. L. Belt, 79, of Sioux City, died Monday, Jan. 22, 2018, at an assisted care facility in Odebolt, Iowa.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service.
Earl was born in rural Walthill, Neb., on June 9, 1938, the son of Paul and Martha (Brummund) Belt. Shortly after his birth, the family moved to Winnebago, Neb., where he grew up. He graduated from Winnebago Public School in 1956 and later, under the G.I. Bill, he graduated from Morningside College.
Earl joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956, serving in Germany. In 1961, he joined the Iowa Air National Guard, where he served for 36 years. He then worked for the Red Cross, the Center of Siouxland and Siouxland Aging Services.
He married Helen (Laskovsky) Rinker in Sioux Sioux City on April 27, 1963. In 1977, they renewed their vows at St. Francis Catholic Church in Sioux City.
Survivors include his wife; daughter, Elizabeth Belt of Almo, Ky.; son, Christopher Belt of Colorado; special friends, Colleen Moore of Albuquerque, N.M., and Angie Carter of Almo; his sister, Martha Pape of Loveland, Colo.; and a brother, William (Lou) of Utah.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Thelma Lee and Hannah Buggy; and brothers, Julius, Paul, Richard and Tommy Lee.
