Earl Edward Schultz, 62, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness with cancer.
Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3:30 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Earl was born Sept. 6, 1945, in Battle Creek, Iowa, to Edward and Velma (Bottjen) Schultz. He grew up in Anthon, Iowa, where he attended and graduated from Anthon-Oto High School in 1963. He served in the Army National Guard with the 133rd from 1963 to 1967. He later attended the Universal Trade School in Omaha for auto mechanic training.
He married Mary Louise Richtermeier on May 13, 1967 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, Iowa. He later married Debbra (Chamberlin) Ferris in 1997 in Elk Point, S.D. He was employed at Western Iowa Tech Community College as a auto mechanic instructor for 30 years, retiring in 2002.
He was of the Catholic faith. He loved to play slow pitch softball, time with family and friends, helping others and doing construction work for himself as Schultz Construction.
Survivors include his wife, Debbra of Sioux City; two daughters and their husbands, Sue and Dennis Boucher of Sioux City and Shelly and Palmer Barton of Elkhorn, Neb.; a son and his wife, Steve and Terri Schultz of Sioux City; a stepson, Chad Ferris of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Cindy Ferris of Sioux City; grandchildren, Tyler Schultz and Elizabeth Barton; stepgrandchildren, Emily and Abby Christiansen; and a brother and his wife, Dwayne and Mary Ann Schultz of Rutledge, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and an infant sister.
Pallbearers will be Tyler Schultz, Phil Hane, Terry Hane, Vince Henrichsen, Don Wheat, Frank Ostrihonsky and Mike Wilde.
