Sioux City - Edith Marie Sigler Kobes, 95, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, in Sioux City.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 13, at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Edith Marie Sigler Kobes was born to Arthur Sigler and Helen Nansen Sigler on Dec. 6, 1917, in Bloomfield, Neb. When Edith was 11, her mother passed away during childbirth. She was raised by her mother's sister on a farm near Bloomfield.
Edith and Edward were married on Nov. 28, 1937, in Elk Point, S.D. She was baptized and took membership at the Westlawn Presbyterian Church in Sioux City. Edith was employed at Wincharger Co. and Zenith Company in Sioux City. She had been retired for the past 35 years.
Edith loved to go fishing and went on numerous fishing trips to Minnesota with her husband, Edward, and family. In her younger years, she was an avid dancer. She danced with Edward to live music from Lawrence Welk's Orchestra when the band was first organized.
Edith enjoyed playing cards and working with flowers. Going shopping with her sisters, Ruth and Lorraine, was an event that she looked forward to. She was a good cook and made a great apple pie.She was a loving and giving mother and will be missed in our hearts and lives.
Edith is survived by one son, David Kobes of Belmond, Iowa; two sisters, Ruth Kobes of Sioux City, Betty Anderson of Salt Lake City, Utah; four half sisters, Donna, Carolyn, Marilyn and Glenda; two half brothers, Dick Peck and Charles Sigler; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Kobes; two sons, Ronald Kobes and Robert Kobes; a sister, Lorraine Vanderlinden; a half brother, Leonard Sigler; and a half sister, Marlene.
