Edith C. Millar, 91, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Pointer officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service Sunday at the funeral home.
Edith was born on June 27, 1921 , in Billings , Neb. , the daughter of Charles and Agnes (Pfisterer) Andrews. She attended country school near Billings , graduating from Gordon ( Neb. ) High School. Edith continued her education at Chadron ( Neb. ) State College and received her master's degree in math and chemistry from the University of Nebraska .
Edith married Allen Millar on Dec. 22, 1943 , in Bend , Oreg. They made their home in Chadron. Over the years, they lived in Lincoln, Neb., Mankato, Minn., Springfield and Madison, S.D., Omaha, and then to Sioux City. Edith taught country school, elementary and high school. She also taught educational curriculum at Mankato ( Minn. ) State College while supervising student teachers.
Edith was actively involved in the Masonic Lodge. She enjoyed spending time with her family and oil painting.
Survivors include her husband, Allen Millar of Sioux City ; a son, Tom and Kathy Millar of Sioux City ; a daughter, Carolyn Perry of Wenachee , Wash. ; and three grandchildren, Matthew Millar, Adam Krausman and Heidi Millar.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Charles, Harry and Tom; and a sister, Helen Andrews.
