SIOUX CITY -- Ed Amick, 87, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at Countryside Senior Living.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Grace United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Tony Nester officiating. Private family graveside services will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Edward Martin Amick was born March 5, 1922, in Bronson, Iowa, to William and Alice (Porter) Amick.
He married Dorothy Dean Godfrey on June 6, 1944. The couple had five children together. He farmed and worked for many years at Swift and Company. After retirement, he continued to work on his farm in Waterbury, Neb., where he found peace and joy.
He was devoted to his wife of 65 years and his family. He thoroughly enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He supported their activities and was very proud of them. He was a wonderful person, who took a genuine interest in everyone surrounding his life.
He enjoyed playing cards with his grandchildren, reading, working crossword puzzles and watching sports. He had great memories of attending school and playing basketball for Bronson High School. He influenced the lives of many young athletes by coaching youth basketball and baseball. He was a fan of anyone participating in sports, especially family members. He loved to visit with anyone willing to listen,
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy; daughters, DeAnn and her husband, Dave Wade of Sterling, Neb., and Joan and her husband, Bob Brandon of Long Grove, Iowa; a son, Ron Amick and his wife, Jan of Sioux City; a daughter, Roxanne and her husband, Tony Sciorrotta of Johnston, Iowa; a son, Lonny Amick and his wife, Nancy of Johnston; 15 grandchildren and spouses; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Margaret and her husband, Leo Fish of Springfield, Mo.; sisters-in-law, Iva Amick of Sioux City and Shirley Amick of Milwaukee, Wis.; and the whole Amick and Godfrey clan, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. They were all very dear to Ed.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Mabel and Helen; and brothers, Glen, Roy, Harrison, Harley, Louie and Don.
Memorials may be directed to Hospice of Siouxland, Grace United Methodist Church (designate apportionments) or any youth sports of choice.
