SIOUX CITY -- Edwin C. Schenzel, 71, of Sioux City died April 26, 2011, in Sioux City.
Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Russell Senstad officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Friday at the church. Ed was born Feb. 28, 1940, in Sioux City, to Louis and Helen (Ball) Schenzel. He grew up and attended school in Leeds. In 1959, Ed went to work for Metz Baking Company.
Later that same year, he married Patricia Rae Herring on Dec. 31, 1959, in Cushing, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sioux City and had two children, Tim and Susan. He went to work as an apprentice sheet metal worker in 1964, becoming a journeyman in 1968 with the Sheet Metal Workers International. He continued in the industry and in 1988, he became part owner in the firm Metal Specialist, retiring in 1998.
His hobbies included golf, fishing, motorcycles, walking at the mall, and mowing yards for both friends and family. His family was very important to him and he loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Survivors include a son, Tim Schenzel and his wife, Janet of Corpus Christi, Texas; a daughter, Susan Schenzel of Sioux City; two granddaughters, Raychel Johnson of Tucson, Ariz., and Jill Schenzel of Sioux City; a grandson, Justin Schenzel of Sioux City; his mother-in-law, Patricia Avis Hanifan of Sioux City; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Patricia; a brother, Duane Schenzel; and two sisters, Marlys Stevens and LaVonne Auen.
