Elaine A. Calkins, 76, of Sioux City passed away Friday, May 2, 2014, at Countryside Retirement Home.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be at a later date. Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel is assisting the family.
Elaine was born on July 20, 1937, in Sioux City, to Carl and Helen (Landers) Wingert. She graduated from Bronson High in 1956.
She was united in marriage to Dean Martens on June 7, 1956. He passed away in 1961. Elaine then married Ed Hanson in 1962. He passed away in 1978. She was later married to Leon Calkins on April 8, 1983, in Portage, Wis. He preceded her in death in 2001.
She enjoyed hunting and fishing with her husband Leon and spending time with family. Elaine was a kidney transplant recipient in 2005 and was very grateful for organ donors.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Dennis Martens of St. George, Utah, Pam Huber of Beaver Dam, Wis., Eddie Hanson of St. George, and Terry (Penny) Hanson of St. George; stepsons, Eldon Calkins and William (Maureen) Calkins; stepdaughters, Lisa and Mona Calkins; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Alan (Colleen) Wingert of Moville, Iowa; sister, Arlene Krom of Sioux City; and sister-in-law, Joyce Wingert of Nevada, Iowa.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husbands; grandson, Dan Bennett; brothers Roland Wingert and Robert Wingert; sister-in-law, Doris Wingert; and brother-in-law, David Krom.
