Elaine J. Forsling, 89, of Sioux City, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on July 20, 2017, at a local hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3204 S. Lakeport St., with the Revs. Russell Senstad and David Zirpel officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, 1801 Morningside Ave. Condolences can be made to the family at

Elaine was born April 14, 1928, in Sioux City, to Carl and Clara (Lempke) Krom. She grew up and attended Sioux City Public Schools, graduating from East High in 1945.
She married Melvin Forsling on Aug. 21, 1948, in Sioux City, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. The couple had two children, Lynne and Steven.
Elaine was a long-time member of St. Paul’s Lutheran where she served on the altar guild and taught Sunday school for many years. In 2012, the couple joined Redeemer Lutheran Church where she served on the Connect Committee with her husband, Melvin. She was a member of the East High faculty wives group, and a member of VASA (a Swedish heritage group). Her hobbies included sewing, crafts, gardening, playing cards and traveling.
Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Melvin of Sioux City; daughter, Lynne (Rich) Draper of Omaha; son, Steven (Penny) Forsling of Grand Junction, Colo.; four grandchildren, Kamden Draper, Kaley Draper, Dustin Forsling and Angle Forsling; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy Krom; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a sister, Alice Gedwillo.
