Elaine Beryl Meyer, 91, of Sioux City died on Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2014, at a Sergeant Bluff nursing home.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. The Rev. Russell Senstad will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Elaine was born on Oct. 7, 1923, in Chandler, Minn. She was the daughter of Parley and Alvina (Strampe) Derby. She moved to the Sioux City area as a child and attended country school. She graduated from East High School in 1941.
Elaine moved to the Los Angeles area of California, where she met her first husband, Leonard Vickers. They were married in March of 1944 in Sioux City. He died in April of 1947. She later married Eugene Meyer in December of 1952. Elaine did food demonstrations at local grocery stores, worked in the bookkeeping department at Edwards I.G.A. in South Sioux City, and then as a waitress at Bishop’s at the mall.
She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran church and enjoyed the Bible studies at the church. She was known for her crocheting, and made afghans and many other things for her family and friends. Family was a very important part of her life.
She is survived by a son and his wife, Clay and Sandy Meyer of Cassville, Mo.; a daughter, Bobbi Meyer of California; two grandchildren, Aleshia and Matthew Ebel of Fremont, Neb., and Josh and Megan Meyer of Sioux City; four great-grandchildren, Lilly, Hannah, Ava and Clare; two sisters, Marge Milbrodt of Sioux City, and Ila Edwards of Sioux Falls, S.D.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; her brother, Bill; and two sisters, Phyllis Elliot and Dardanella Franzen.
A memorial has been established in her name for Hospice of Siouxland and Redeemer Lutheran Church.
