Eleanore Metz, 89, of Sioux City died Sunday, May 19, 2013, at her home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Cathedral of the Epiphany, with the Rev. Merlin Schrad officiating. Entombment will be in the Mausoleum of the Resurrection at Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Eleanore was born on Sept. 29, 1923, in Sioux City, the daughter of James P and Irene (Carel) Considine. She was raised in Sioux City and attended Sioux City schools and the Nettleton Business School. After she graduated, she went to work as a secretary the Sheraton Warrior Hotel, the Sioux City Stockyards Exchange and Dr. Bliss’ office.
On May 10, 1947, she married William C. Metz in Sioux City. William died on Jan. 31, 2001, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and St. Theresa Circle at the church. She was very active with the American Red Cross. She was a founding board member of Jackson Recovery, and a sustaining member of the Junior League. She also served on the board for Briar Cliff University. Eleanore received the Palmer Award in 2006.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives, William and Nancy Metz of Dakota Dunes, S.D., and Henry and Christie Metz of Santa Ynez, Calif.; five grandchildren, Hillary Metz, Conrad and Vanessa Metz, Jason Metz, Carrie and Tony Massey, and Andrew Metz; three great-grandchildren, Henry Conrad Metz, and Anae’ and Talyah Massey; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Virgil and Warren Considine; and a nephew, Tom Considine.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name for Jackson Recovery
