SIOUX CITY -- Elisabeth "Beth" Schroder, 85, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Feb. 2, 2010, at her residence following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. James United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ryan Christenson officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Beth was born May 31, 1924, in Grand Junction, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred R. and Mary E. (Gonder) Clause. She was raised in Grand Junction, where she graduated from Grand Junction High School. She then graduated from Iowa State University with her bachelor of science degree in home economics education in 1946.
She married Eldon L. Schroder on July 30, 1946, in Gary, Ind. She lived in Gary for a short time before the family moved to Sioux City in 1956 from Estherville, Iowa. She taught while living in Gary. She was a homemaker and housewife. She was involved in her children's activities such as Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts. She was active with 4-H clubs, serving as a state officer in her youth.
She served on the board of directors of the Bacon Creek Construction and Design Inc. She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, where she was active in numerous church circles and Bible study groups. She was a member of the Sioux City Women's Club. She was a volunteer at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center and the Center for Siouxland. She also was involved with the P.T.A. and K.W.I.T. She was a member of the Red Hat Society (the Cardinal Toppers). She enjoyed traveling, cooking, sewing, reading, doing crossword puzzles, watching sports and keeping in touch with her family on the computer.
Family left to remember her include her husband, Eldon L. Schroder of Sioux City; two sons, Ronald (Sherrie) Schroder of Port Angeles, Wash., and Rex (Marcia) Schroder of Sioux City; three daughters, Jan (Bill) Burke of Dakota Dunes, Judith Williams of Columbia, S.C., and Dottie (Michael) Guilbert of Reno, Nev.; two brothers, Robert (Dena) Clause and Roger (Dorothy) Clause, all of Grand Junction; a sister, Margene Miller of Federal Way, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Jean Clause of Jefferson, Iowa; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Marietta Weber and an infant sister, Raymona Clause; and a brother, Gerald Clause.
