SIOUX CITY -- Elizabeth J. "Bette" Uhl, 86, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Daniel C. Guenther officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Condolences may be sent online to

Bette was born April 30, 1924, in Sioux City, the daughter of Leopold and Eva (Chicoine) Jauron. She was raised in Salix, Iowa, where she graduated from St. Joseph High School. She came to Sioux City in the early 1940s.
She married Leonard H. Uhl on Oct. 9, 1946, in Sioux City. She was a homemaker and housewife. After her children were raised, she went to work for the Policemen's Association of Sioux City. She then worked at the Morningside College Bookstore for 15 years. Then she worked for the Siouxland Senior Citizen Center.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, playing cards and was an avid bingo player.
Survivors include her husband, Leonard of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Jauron Michael and Barbara Uhl of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Frederick J. and Pamela Uhl of Sioux City; a daughter and her husband, Jeanne M. and Kenneth Baldwin of Glendale, Ariz.; a sister, Jeanette Huster of Catonsville, Md.; 10 grandchildren, Tanya Fischer of Tulsa, Okla., Jess Uhl of Cincinnati, Melissa Tiedke, Jeff, Ryan, Emily, Molly and Ashley Uhl, all of Sioux City, and Chad and Dustin Baldwin, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Brady Uhl.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Uhl, Ryan Uhl, Chad Baldwin, Dustin Baldwin, Chad Tiedtke and Devin Torgenson.
