Elizabeth M. "Betty" Christiansen, 87, of Sioux City passed away Sunday, Sept. 28, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton, Iowa, with the Rev. Brice Jackson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux City. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Betty was born April 4, 1921, in Omaha, to William and Minnie (Hansen) Durigan. She moved to Sioux City as a young child. She attended Sioux City schools and had been a lifelong resident of the Siouxland area.
She married Alvin Christiansen on Dec. 31, 1950 at the Lutheran church in Leeds. Alvin passed away March 10, 2006 in Sioux City. She was a homemaker for several years. She later worked for Otis Radio in Hawarden, Iowa. She also worked for Wincharger Company, Swift and Company, Aalfs Manufacturing and later as a nurse's aid at a local hospital.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton and the Ladies Aid. She enjoyed sewing, reading the paper, cooking, family events and looking at family photos. However, she enjoyed sending and receiving cards from friends and family for all occasions.
Survivors include her children, Michael Christiansen of Boone, Iowa, and Peggy Christiansen of Sioux City; two sisters, Marie Durigan of Chicago and Marcella Wright of Chanute, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Violet Rath; and a brother, William Durigan.
