Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Wiedemeier (Tangney)

Elizabeth "Betty" A. Wiedemeier, 87, of Sioux City passed away peacefully, Saturday, June 21, 2014, in Omaha.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Merlin Schrad will officiate. Burial of the ashes will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Elizabeth "Betty" was born on Nov. 3, 1926, in Omaha, the daughter of Raymond Charles and Rose Marie (Rotter) Tangney. Elizabeth "Betty" was raised in Omaha and attended St. John’s Catholic Grade School and graduated from Duchesne Academy.
Elizabeth "Betty" discontinued studies at Duchesne College of the Sacred Heart to marry the love of her life, Joe, at St. Cecilia Cathedral in Omaha. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1950. Betty was a devoted wife and mother of eight for nearly 67 years.
She is survived by her children, Carol (Bruce) Siegrist of Englewood, Colo., Mary Jo (Mike) Dahir of Omaha, Gina (Don) Corry of Kanab, Utah, Thad (Lori) Wiedemeier of Spirit Lake, Iowa, John (Vicky) Wiedemeier of Polk City, Iowa, Beth (Chris) Hougen of Eau Claire, Wis., and Dan (Ruth) Wiedemeier of Ames, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Raymond Tangney of Arcadia, Calif.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Joseph L. Wiedemeier; her son, Joseph L. Jr.; two grandchildren, Valerie and Lamar; one great-grandchild, Sadie; and her sisters, Alice and Eleanor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in her name to the Blessed Sacrament School Tuition Fund or the Sisters of Mercy West Midwest Community in Omaha.
