SOUTH SIOUX CITY -- Elizabeth Kotalik, 82, of South Sioux City died Monday, March 10, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in South Sioux City, with the Rev. David Wittrock officiating. Graveside services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday in Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery, Yankton, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. followed by a rosary, at Christy-Smith Larkin Chapel.
Elizabeth was born Dec. 31, 1925, in rural Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Katherine (Ruba) Schreiner. She was raised in the Remsen, Iowa, area, attending school at St. Mary's Catholic Schools.
On Nov. 10, 1952, she married Ernest J. Kotalik in Remsen. Following the marriage, the couple moved to Yankton, S.D., and lived there for several years. They also moved to Le Mars, Iowa, Sioux Falls, S.D., Hubbard, Neb., and to South Sioux City in 1968, where she had lived since. She had worked at the Diamond Horseshoe Truck Stop, Zenith Corp. and as a clerk/cashier at the Corner Store in South Sioux City. Her husband, Ernest, died Jan. 4, 2004.
She was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church. She enjoyed bingo, playing cards, canning, baking, polka music, the music of Daniel O'Donnell and spending time with her grandchildren. She can be remembered for her overwhelming love and support for the children and their families. She was seen on most days giving you a sweet smile and a quick wit.
She is survived by nine sons, Darrell and Deborah of South Sioux City, Eugene and Denise of Dakota City, Thomas and Sandra of South Sioux City, Stanley of South Sioux City, Ernest of Sioux City, David of Stuart, Va., Melvin and Bonnie of Chesapeake, Va., Duane and Stephannie of Sioux City and Roger of South Sioux City; two daughters, Rebecca and Michael Price of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Donna Klassen of Norfolk, Neb.; a brother, Martin and Marie Schreiner of Struble, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Laura Schreiner of Le Mars, Iowa; 26 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; two sons, Harold and Marvin; a grandson, Jasen; a sister, Mary Eickholt; and two brothers, John and Roland Schreiner.
