Ellwood 'John' Hall

Ellwood “John” Hall , 87, of Sioux City died on Friday, June 19, 2015 at his home surrounded by all of his children.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 am at St. Boniface Catholic Church. Father Craig Collison will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm Monday at the Larkin Chapel, Christy- Smith Funeral Home. The family will be there from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A vigil service will be held at 7:00 pm followed by an Elks memorial service.
John was born May 13, 1928 on the family farm near Elk Point, South Dakota to Ellwood Henry and Alma (LaBrune) Hall. He graduated from Elk Point High School in 1945.
John married Helen T. Schubert on May 13, 1948 at St. Boniface Church. During a marriage of 61 years, five children were born. Helen preceded him in death on July 24, 2009.
John had always been in the floor covering business from the time he was employed at Hansen Glass and Paint. Later, he was employed by Onthank as a salesman and in 1967, he helped establish Fashion Floors. In 1998, he became sole proprietor and president of Fashion Floors Carpet One and continued meeting the flooring needs of Siouxland for 48 years until the time of his death.
He established the Nebraska Iowa Floor Covering Association in 1995 and served as its president from 1996 to 1999. He served on the World Floor Covering Board of Directors and executive committee. He was named Associate of the Year of the Home Builders Association of which he was a long time member. .
John was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Isaac Walton League, and the Elks Lodge #112 where he had served as an Exalted Ruler.
John enjoyed camping, Explorers ball games, skiing into his 80's, traveling, and Sunday nights at El Fredo's Pizza with family. He was extremely proud of donating the Hope Bell to the June E. Nylen Cancer Center for cancer survivors who had finished their cancer treatments.
Left to remember “Life is Good” are his children: Linda (Wayne) Treinen of California, Denny (Jan) Hall of Nebraska, Terry (Chong) Hall of Wisconsin, Cindy (Bob) Duncan of Iowa, and Pam (Brad) Dominicak of Minnesota; Grandchildren: Tiffany, Travis, Michelle, Marissa, Beth, Christina, Rachael, Aaron, Ashley, Alyssa, and Sara; Great Grandchildren: Mackenzie, Connor, Morgan, Kayla, Tyler, and Amanda. He is also survived by his brothers: Bernard (Madonna) Hall, Russell (Midge) Hall, Raymond (Mary) Hall, and Vincent Hall. The family would like to thank his special companion Gloria Reisberg who filled the void his family couldn't fill.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Darvin, his sister Kathleen, and his grandson Robert John Duncan.
