Elvera L. Otto, 93, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel with the Rev. Paul C. Mueller officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
Elvera was born Dec. 2, 1914, in Emerson, Neb., the daughter of Nels and Anna (Nordberg) Johnson. She lived in Nebraska until moving to Sioux City as a young teen. She married Edwin Otto on Nov. 2, 1932, in Holstein, Iowa. He passed away April 2, 1969, in Sioux City.
She had managed a restaurant on Pierce Street for a short while in the 1950s. She retired from Younkers in 1979 after 15 years, working as a buyer in the Linens/Drapery Department. She had attended Whitfield United Methodist Church. She enjoyed camping, sewing, crocheting, playing cards and she loved her flower garden and all kinds of flowers in her home. She was fond of her family and spending time with them and the grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, Gerald and Judee Otto of Sioux City and Richard and Deb Otto of Centerville, D.S.; two daughters, June Wilhelm or Norfolk, Neb. and Judy and Dick Hinds of Port Orange, Fla.; two sisters Edith Beck of South Sioux City and Mildred Saunders of Sioux City; 11 grandchildren, Jon and Karen Otto, Jodee and Craig Purcell, Geffrey and Barb Hinds, Darcy Hinds, Calvin and Diane Renander, LouAnn and Tom Nenemen, Steven and Kathleen Renander, Ricky and Clara Otto Jr., Robin Otto, Bryan Otto and Angela Otto; 15 great-grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Violet Wermes and Edna Haffa; and three brothers, Bernard Johnson, Nels Johnson and Elmer Johnson.
