Emajean "Sally" Sally Poskevich (Fegenbush)

SIOUX CITY -- Sally Emajean Poskevich, 93, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 2, 2011, at a Sioux City hospital with her family by her side.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Nativity, with the Rev. Steven McLoud officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.

Sally was born Dec. 23, 1917, in Whiting, Iowa, to Roy and Eunice (Taylor) Fegenbush. She attended Whiting school through the 11th grade, then moved to Sioux City, where she graduated from East High School in 1936. She had been a resident of Sioux City since 1935.

She married Paul Poskevich on June 18, 1947, in Sioux City. He passed away on Oct. 30, 2001. She worked as a secretary at St. Joseph Hospital, was a switchboard operator at Bell Telephone Co. and was a secretary at Sloan and Woodrow Schools, retiring in December 1979.

After she retired, she crocheted for others, giving her blankets to nursing homes, Right to Life, Marian Health Center newborns and neglected and abused children. She also volunteered at Joy Elementary School. She was always very creative, making quilts, ceramics, crafts, painting and baking. She loved shopping and story telling, she had a contagious belly laugh. She also enjoyed expressing her opinion with many Sioux City Journal editorials.

Survivors include her daughter, Sally Hartin of Sioux City; a son, Paul Poskevich Jr. of Sioux City; and two granddaughters, Alesha Hartin and her fiance, Andy Burgraff of Des Moines, and Jean Marie and Adam Althaus of St. Louis, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers; and six sisters.
