Emma Lee Bolton, 101, of Sioux City, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 at a local nursing home. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 18th at 10:30 AM at Grace United Methodist Church. Visitation will be one hour prior. Inurnment will be at Kingsley Cemetery.
Emma was born on April 17, 1914 in Owensboro, KY to John and Ella (Gist) French. The family moved to Iowa and farmed near Kingsley. The eldest of eight children, she attended Union Consolidated School and later graduated from Kingsley High School in 1932. In 1934 she married Allen Bolton and had a son Larry. She later moved to Sioux City and worked for many years at Roe Dairy until they closed. She then worked several years at Highlander laundromat. Emma Lee was a longtime member of Grace United Methodist Church. She loved traveling, sewing, quilting, and playing in her card club. She made many quilts and blankets for her family and friends.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter-in-law, Judy Bolton, Sioux City; grandsons: Douglas Bolton, Sioux City, Robert (Ann) Bolton, Guthrie Center, IA, Thomas (Miki) Bolton, Greenwood, IN; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; sisters: Maxine McCarty, Mesa, AZ, Marcella Kranz, Moville; brother, Wyndham French, Moville; cousin, Doris Semple, Sioux City; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; son Larry Bolton; brother, William French; sisters: Frances Juelfs, Darlene Berkenpas, and Mary Reinholdt.
Honorary pallbearers will be her 11 great-grandchildren.
