Emma Maggie Haring (Jahn)

March 31, 1910 — July 11, 2014

Emma M. Haring, 104, of Sioux City passed away Friday, July 11, 2014, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday at the Anthon United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Janet Reickhoff officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery at Anthon, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Emma was born on a farm six miles southeast of Moville, Iowa. She was the daughter of Gustav A. and Christina M. (Bremer) Jahn. She was raised in the Moville and Anthon area.
On Oct. 18, 1930, she married Ernest Erett Haring in Worthington, Minn. After they were married, they lived in Moville and Anthon. Ernest died on April 11, 1957, in Anthon. Emma had lived in Sioux City since 1957. She worked at Weller’s Plastic as a supervisor for many years before retiring in 1972.
She has been a member of the Anthon United Methodist Church since 1945. She was very active at the church and worked the turkey dinner and the church bazaar. She was formerly active in 4-H. Emma was known for crocheting and would make mittens for the annual mitten drive in Sioux City and she would make hats for the newborn babies at the Iowa City hospital
She is survived by her seven grandchildren, Mike and Pat Conley, Becky and James Fenceroy, Joe and Mary Ostrihonsky, all of Sioux City, Melanie and Mark Foster of Maricopa, Ariz., Rashelle Katseres of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, Ronnette Wohlfeil of New Orleans, La., Toni Dwyer of Hinton, Iowa; 22 great-grandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her two daughters, Dolores Conley and Donna Ostrihonsky; and five grandchildren, Lori Conley, Lyndon Conley, James, Burton and Barton Ostrihonsky.
