SIOUX CITY -- Ernest D. Dandurand, 85, of Sioux City died Saturday, April 23, 2011, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church. The Rev. Douglas Dandurand, son of the deceased, will officiate. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Ernest was born July 22, 1925 in Anthon, Iowa. He was the son of Eugene and Cecelia (Cyrier) Dandurand. He moved to the Sioux City area in 1937. He graduated from Trinity High School in Sioux City and attended two years of college.
Ernest served in the United States Navy as radar man during World War II and was involved with the invasion of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He also served during the Korean War.
On Sept. 29, 1952, he married Bernadette R. Maurice. Ernie was a route salesman for Messer Distributing Co. and for Ray V. Mitchell Distributing Co. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Bernadette died on May 16, 2008, in Sioux City.
He is survived by his children, David of Sioux City, Father Doug Dandurand of Minneapolis, Minn., Maureen (Stewart) Huff of Dakota Dunes, S.D., Colleen (Thomas) Bainbridge of Kingsley, Iowa, Joanne (Steve) Cote of Sioux City, and Roxanne (Kelly) Clausen of Dakota Dunes; 9 grandchildren, Kelly (Adam) Stokes, Michael (Jaime) Blankenship, Andrew and Brandon Bainbridge, Christina (Justin Emmick) and Matthew (Ruthie Thongphet) Liston, Wendy, Ryan (Kathy) and Sean Clausen; 7 great-grandchildren, Ethan and Maycee Jo Emmick, Bella and Ben Stokes, Lainey Blankenship, Raechel Clausen and Brody Liston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, 8 brothers and 7 sisters.
Pallbearers will be Father Doug and David Dandurand, Kelly Clausen, Tom Bainbridge, Stewart Huff and Steve Cote
