Ervin V. VanDerWilt, 82, of Sioux City passed away Friday, Feb. 8, 2008, at a local nursing home in Sergeant Bluff.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Community United Methodist Church in Sergeant Bluff, with Pastor Deb Stowers officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.
Ervin was born Oct. 18, 1925, in Middleburg, Iowa, to Henry and Katie (DeYoung) VanDerWilt. He grew up and attended school in the Sibley-Ocheyedan area. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Sioux City in 1956, and had been a resident here ever since.
He married Tillie Christians on June 10, 1948, in Sibley, Iowa. She passed away on Dec. 6, 2001, in Sioux City. Ervin was employed with Flavorland Meat Packing for 21 years and Sherman Produce for two years, retiring in 1979.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Survivors include two sons, Jim and Julia VanDerWilt of Thornton, Colo., and Randy VanDerWilt of Sioux City; a daughter, Marla and Carl Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff; six grandchildren, Brian VanDerWilt of Los Angeles, Calif., Sheri and Josh Moore of Sioux City, Derek and Jessica Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, Nicole Cleveland of Sergeant Bluff, Shana and Matt Adams of Rockford, Minn., and Shane Noreen of McCook Lake, S.D.; four great-grandchildren, Karlee Moore, Gage Morgan, MaKenna Cleveland and MaKayla Adams; and a sister, Angeline Nattress of Sibley, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tillie; a son, Calvin VanDerWilt; a daughter, Sheryl Noreen; six sisters; and three brothers.
