SIOUX CITY -- Esther B. Van Waart, 92, of Sioux City died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2008, at her residence.
Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Kevin Lee officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent to

Esther was born on May 29, 1916, in Sioux City, the daughter of Andrew and Ida (Methue) Wilhelmson. She was a lifetime resident of Sioux City. She attended public schools, graduating from Central High School.
She married Peter M. Van Waart on July 21, 1941, in Sioux City. He passed away on April 1, 2004, in Sioux City.
Esther was an active member of Morningside Lutheran Church, past president of Joy Elementary and East High School PTA's and past president of Girls of '68. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her family and all of her grandchildren.
Survivors include three sons, Jerry (Ellen) Van Waart of Carter Lake, Iowa, Bob (Joyce) Van Waart of Sioux City, and Roger (Peggy) Van Waart of Papillion, Neb.; 10 grandchildren, Caron and Ray Partridge, Jeanne and Todd Hinnenkamp, Kristie and Shannon Weichel, Chad and Lori Menefee, Wendy & Jay Harris, Peter & Jessica VanWaart, Mindy Van Waart, Shawn Johnson, Ami & Rick Landon and Patrick and Laurie Johnson; 12 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Mildred Strohbeen and Eleanor Williams; and a great-granddaughter, Brittney Menefee.
