MOVILLE, Iowa -- Ethel Jane Johnson, 98, of Kingsley, Iowa, formerly of Moville, died Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, at Kingsley Nursing & Rehab Center in Kingsley.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Moville United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Ed Frank officiating. Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Smithland Cemetery at Smithland, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville. Ethel was born Jan. 20, 1911, in Holt County, Neb., the daughter of Fredrick and Nettie (Thavenet) Carson. She was raised in the Smithland area, graduating from Smithland High School in 1928.
She married Homer E. Johnson on Nov. 9, 1929, in Rippey, Iowa. He died Feb. 28, 1980. Ethel lived most of her life in Moville until she moved to Char-Mac in Lawton, Iowa. Since 2005, she had resided at Kingsley Nursing and Rehab Center in Kingsley. She was a clerk at IPS for more than15 years and later worked for Western Iowa Telephone Co. She was a member of Moville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by five daughters, Joy (Gary) Lillie of Lillian, Ala., Evelyn (Steve) Stubbs of Moville, LaDonna Peters of Moville, Janice (Roger) Schnaible of Moville, and Dee (Art) Ashley of Sioux City; 12 grandchildren, Greg Lillie, Rick Lillie, Denis Stubbs, Allan Stubbs, Jeff Peters, Randy Peters, Heather Crichton, Mark Schnaible, Tim Schnaible, Susan Chesley, Shelly Nash and Brenda Ashley; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a dear friend, Carol Corbin; and three nieces, Dorothy (Keith) Benton of Marcus, Iowa, Kathy Mack of Smithland, and Dorris Mack of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a daughter, Shirley Jean; a sister, Mary Mack; and a son-in-law, Gary Peters.
