Eula was born April 27, 1918, in Aurora County, S.D., the fifth child of Elmer and Mary Gardner. She lived on the farm with her eight siblings and attended Hopper Consolidated School near Plankinton, S.D., graduating in 1936. She loved to play basketball and was an excellent student.
Eula was married to John M. Henline for nearly 65 years. John passed June 30, 2006.
She became a registered nurse, working at Methodist Hospital in Mitchell, S.D., for more than 40 years. Eula graduated with her master's degree in education from South Dakota State University in Brookings. She taught obstetrics at Methodist School of Nursing and Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, until her retirement in 1983.
In her retirement years, she enjoyed gardening, reading, crocheting, knitting, needlepoint, sewing, quilting and Bible study. She volunteered for many years for Child Evangelism Fellowship and other church ministries.
Each of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren knew that her most earnest desire was for them to love and serve Jesus all the days of their lives. Grandma Eula and Grandpa John set the standard high for the family in moral and spiritual living, and their legacy will continue for many generations. Eula died as she had lived, with grace and dignity.
