Eunice Edith Petersen Crawford Zeitler

Eunice Edith Zeitler, 88, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2025, in her home in Sioux City, Iowa.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 11:00 am at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel (1801 Morningside Ave.) with a visitation taking place one hour prior. Her final resting place will be Memorial Park Cemetery.

Eunice was born on April 1, 1936, in Pierson, Iowa, to Charles and Eva (Brause) Petersen – she was one of 9 children. The family moved to Tony, Wisconsin, where Eunice was raised and spent her early childhood. She graduated on May 23, 1955, from Ladysmith High School in Wisconsin before moving to Sioux City, Iowa, in the fall of 1955 at the age of 19.

On December 2, 1958, Eunice married Fred Crawford in Centerville, South Dakota. The couple moved to Tucson, Arizona, in 1960, and lived there for 14 years before moving back to Sioux City in April 1974. Eunice and Fred were together for 17 years before his passing on November 11, 1974.

Eunice worked at St. Luke’s Hospital (now UnityPoint Health - St. Luke's), starting in August 1978, as a Kitchen Aid for approximately 12 years before retiring. In her spare time, Eunice loved to travel, enjoyed going to casinos, and loved putting puzzles together.

On August 11, 1978, Eunice married William L. Zeitler in Sioux City, Iowa. The couple spent 23 years together before his passing on March 22, 2000.

Eunice is survived by several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Eva Petersen; her first husband, Fred Crawford; her second husband, William Zeitler; and her siblings, Fritz W. (Edna) Petersen, John A. (Stacia) Petersen, Alice (Amil) Florke, Edna (Raymond) Florke, Carol (Ralph) Abbiehl, Johanna Petersen, Mary (Jesse) Titus, and Mildred Petersen.
