Eva Marie Hansen, 92, of Sioux City, passed away on Mothers Day, May 14, 2017, at Holy Spirit Retirement Home following a battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., Calvary Lutheran Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Larkin Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Eva was born on April 27, 1925, in Beresford, S.D., to Esther (Smith) and Harold Sorensen. She attended Pleasant Hill Country School and graduated from Beresford High School on May 19, 1943.
She married Judine Hansen on Jan. 18, 1946 at the Lutheran Church in Vermillion, S.D. They lived in Beresford and Akron, Iowa, before moving to Sioux City in 1954. They lived in Leeds until she had to become a resident of Holy Spirit. Judine passed away in November 1996. They were married for 50 years.
Eva worked at the Council Oak Store and continued working there until it became Higgins IGA.
Eva enjoyed spending her time with her family and taking care of her flowers. She also liked going to Little League baseball games. She was a life long member of Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors include sons, Jack (Penny) Hansen of Osprey, Fla., Jerry (Pati) Hansen of Sioux City, and Jim (Sally) Hansen of South Sioux City; a daughter, Janet (Terry) Carter of McCook Lake, S.D.; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Myrtle Danielson.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Judine; and son, David "Crockett" Hansen; her parents; brother, Harlan Sorensen; and sisters, Isabel Wells and Elva Andrews.
