SIOUX CITY -- Eva L. Kennedy, 80, of Sioux City passed away Saturday, May 23, 2009, at a local nursing home.
Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Larkin Northside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Merrill Muller of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Eva was born July 8, 1928, in Carroll, Neb., to Herman and Eva (Bigelow) Hurley. She grew up in northeast Nebraska, where she attended country school. She later attended high school in Ponca, Neb.
She married Wayne G. Kennedy on Jan. 6, 1945, in South Sioux City. He preceded her in death on Dec. 17, 1999, in Sioux City. After her marriage, they resided in the Waterbury and Ponca, Neb. area until 1957, when they moved to Minnesota. They lived there until 1959, when they moved to Sioux City and had resided there ever since. She worked with her husband, Wayne. Together, they operated Kennedy Construction, doing window installation.
She was an active member of Riverside United Methodist Church. She also volunteered at Riverside Senior Center and other places like the nature center, welcome center and the soup kitchen. When she was not busy volunteering, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, embroidering, canning and taking walks.
Survivors include her children, Charles and Linda Kennedy, Richard Kennedy and Randall and Sue Kennedy, all of Sioux City and Deborah and Joe Truhe of Jefferson, S.D.; 11 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Beverly; six sisters; and two brothers.
