Evelyn Carle, age 93, formerly of Sioux City, passed away Saturday, September 26, 2020 in Fremont, NE.
God gave Evelyn Grace Hand breath on April 26, 1927. He took her home on Sept 26, 2020. Living her life to age 93 in obedience to God and for His Glory was her passion to love others with a heart like His. She finished the race well.
A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 9, 2020 at Christy-Smith Funeral Homes, Morningside Chapel. Visitation will be held one-hour prior. Interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
Evelyn was born in Buchanan County, IA, the daughter of Irvin and Chloe Hand. She attended the Winthrop Public Schools and Cedar Rapids Business College.
On June 3rd, 1951 she married William A. Carle in Winthrop, IA. She worked for the Quaker Oats Co. in Cedar Rapids for 10 years. The couple adopted two children, Richard Carle and Rhonda Carle. They moved to Sioux City in October of 1962.
Some of their favorite family activities was square dancing and camping. Her husband and her were the presidents of the Square Dance Federation of Sioux City. She was the founder of the “Teddy Bear Project” at St. Luke’s Hospital, where children would receive a teddy bear to comfort them in the emergency room. She was a member of Sunnybrook Community Church in Sioux City for over 35 years. She moved to Fremont, NE, in 1998 and founded the “Heart Project” for breast cancer survivors for comfort at Fremont Hospital, Lakeside of Omaha, and Estabrook Cancer Center in Omaha.
Evelyn is survived by her daughter, Rhonda and her husband Steven Sell of Fremont, NE; 3 grandchildren, Erin and her husband Bob Huber of Omaha, NE, Nathan Sell of Longmont, CO, Carley and her husband Justin Baird of Omaha, NE; 5 great grandchildren, Audrey, Brennan, Evelyn, Samuel, Steven all of Omaha, NE; 2 nieces, Cheryl Gouldin and her family, Mary Ellen and Scott Halverson and their family.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; son, Richard; sister, Inez Malmgren and her husband Harry.
