KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Evelyn F. Conner, 92, of Kingsley died Friday, Aug. 8, 2008, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at McCulloch Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Moville, Iowa, with the Rev. Burt Burwell, A.i.M. officiating. Burial of the ashes will be in Fairfield Cemetery, Rock Branch, Iowa.
Evelyn was the fourth child of William H. and Anna (Miller) Petersen of rural Moville. She was born at the family farm on June 25, 1916. She attended the nearby country grade school, then Moville High School, where she graduated with the class of 1934.
She married Warren T. Conner of Kingsley in 1937. They lived and worked on various farms in the Moville, Kingsley and Climbing Hill, Iowa, area until they quit farming in 1955. After that, they lived in Moville, Battle Creek, Clear Lake, Sioux City and Omaha until Warren's death in 1977. They had three sons, Warren J. now of Omaha, Jack A. now of Dakota Dunes and Kenneth G. now of Kingsley.
She worked in the food service division of Omaha Public Schools for several years, as well as at restaurants in Battle Creek, Moville and Correctionville, Iowa. For one year, 1968-1969, she managed the United Methodist Youth Camp facility in Clear Lake, Iowa. From 1969 to 1991, she lived with her son, Warren, and raised his two children, Stephen and Sheryl, after their mother's death. During this period, they lived for one year in Sioux City and the remainder in Omaha. After the children were out of school, she moved to Rock Branch, then to Correctionville and finally to Kingsley.
Survivors include her sons; two sisters-in-law, Beth Petersen of Moville and Dee Petersen of Phoenix; a daughter-in-law, Phyllis Conner of Dakota Dunes; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; six brothers; a sister; and a daughter-in-law.
