Evelyn L. Helgersen, 92, of Sioux City died Monday, May 4, 2015, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Tom LoVan officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born on Sept. 2, 1922, in Laurel, Neb., the daughter of William and Hilda (Carlson) Koch. She attended country school near Laurel. Evelyn moved to Los Angeles and was a Rosie the Riveter, working in a war plane assembly plant.
She moved to Sioux City, where she met and married Seth Helgersen on Nov. 26, 1948. They made their home in Sioux City, where Evelyn worked building caskets for Dailey Casket Company. Seth died on April 18, 2009.
Evelyn was a member of Morningside Lutheran Church and its Ladies Aid. She also taught Sunday School. Evelyn and Seth loved spending time at their lake cabin in Okoboji for more than 30 years. Evelyn also enjoyed baking and cooking.
Survivors include her son, Tom Helgersen and his significant other, Teresa Muckey of Sioux City; sister, Wilma Schoen of Georgia; brother-in-law, Bud Muecke of Sioux City; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Seth; infant daughter, Mary Ann Helgersen; and eight brothers and sisters.
