WINNEBAGO, Neb. -- Evelyn E. Belt, 89, of Winnebago passed away Saturday, June 12, 2010, at a South Sioux City care facility.
Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Sioux City, with Bishop Foster officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Walthill, Neb. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. Evelyn was born March 21, 1921, in Elk Horn, Iowa, to Simon and Johanna (Jorgensen) Petersen. She grew up in the Elk Horn area, where she attended school and graduated from high school in 1941. She later moved to Des Moines and resided there until 1962, when she moved to Winnebago. She has been a resident there ever since.
She married Paul W. Belt on May 18, 1947. He passed away in 1982, in Sioux City. She was employed at an ordnance plant during World War II and as a homemaker.
She enjoyed gardening, flowers, baking, cooking, being outdoors and doing activities with her husband and family. She also taught herself to play the piano and music.
In 1978, she became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Survivors include her daughter, Marlena Belt of Winnebago.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Rodney Paul Belt; and a sister.
