Evelyn 'Lyn' Mueller

Evelyn "Lyn" Mueller, 91, of Sioux City passed away Feb. 13, 2013, at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Services will be noon Saturday at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Visitation and luncheon will follow the service Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Evelyn was born on Dec. 19, 1921, on the family farm near Leigh, Neb., to Emil and Rosa (Wilke) Groteluschen. She was baptized on Jan. 15, 1922. Lyn attended a rural school, District 20, for one year, then went to Christ Lutheran School in rural Columbus, Neb. Two years were spent at Wilson Junior High School. She was confirmed on May 24, 1936, at Christ Lutheran Church. She completed high school at Leigh High School.
For college, Evelyn chose Concordia Teacher's College in Seward, Neb. Her first teaching assignment was a one-room parochial school in Sumner, Iowa. From there, she moved to St. Louis, Mo., where she taught classes at Grace Wellston Lutheran School.
On June 30, 1946, she married Paul C. Mueller from Columbia, S.D. Paul had just completed his studies at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis. Paul and Lyn served churches in Bagley, Goodhue Lake City and New Ulm, Minn., and Boone, Iowa. Coming to Sioux City, Paul was pastor at Redeemer Lutheran Church for 14 years. After Paul's retirement in 1987, Lyn played the piano for Siouxland Residential Services and some of the Sioux City nursing homes.
She was a member of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Lyn had actively participated in the work of the churches where her husband served. She taught mid-week religious classes and some Bible studies, and sang in the choir. She was a member of the Altar Guild, Concordia Seminary Guild in St. Louis, Ladies Aid, various circles and the Redeemer Quilters.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Mueller; daughters, Barbara (Ernie) Caruso of Alpharetta, Ga., Judith (Peter) Dabertin of Elmhurst, Ill., and Roxanne (Andrew) Smith of Ann Arbor, Mich.; sons, Steven (Sharon) Mueller of Great Falls, Mont., and the Rev. Peter Mueller of Austin, Texas; grandchildren, Karl (Angele) Mueller, Kurt (Rachel) Mueller, Jakob Smith, and Michael Dabertin; stepgrandchildren, Joe (Kim) Caruso, and Lisa (Michael) Rodenhiser; two great-grandchildren; eight great-stepgrandchildren; a brother, Martin Grotelueschen; a sister, Rose Marie Graft; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
