SIOUX CITY -- Evelyn L. Rosenkrans, 93, of Sioux City passed away Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2010, at Sunrise Retirement Center.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Gerwulf Center of Sunrise Retirement Center, with Pastor Jon Moravec officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Evelyn Leona Rosenkrans was born on Feb. 13, 1916, to Ralph and Laura (Andre) Rosenkrans in Sioux City. She attended and graduated from Sioux City Public Schools with the class of 1934. She then attended NBT Business College in Sioux City.
Evelyn served in the U.S. Navy Waves from 1945 to 1946, stationed in Los Angeles, Calif. After discharge from the Navy, she stayed in California and worked for Douglas Aircraft in San Monica for 10 years prior to returning to Sioux City. Upon her return she went to work for T.S. Martin, then as a secretary for the Sioux City Parks Department.
She was a member of the Waves Unit 62 of Sioux City, Monahan Post 64 of the American Legion and the Siouxland Senior Center. She was a longtime member of the Whitfield Methodist Church and attended Sioux City Baptist Church. She was also an amateur whistler and appeared on many radio programs in the 30s and 40s.
Evelyn is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Evelyn's parents and four brothers, Donald, William, Harold and Ross preceded her in death.
