Ferne Elizabeth Mouw (Kimm)

SIOUX CITY -- Ferne E. Mouw, 87, of Sioux City died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2009, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Craig Bock of St. Luke's Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be 6 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Condolences may be sent online to www.christysmith.com .
Ferne was born Jan. 17, 1922, in Sioux City, the daughter of Henry D. and Mary E. (Erb) Kimm. She was raised in Pierson, Iowa, where she graduated from Pierson High School in 1939. She attended business college in Omaha before coming to Sioux City in 1940 and had lived here ever since. She attended the Nettleton Business Training School in Sioux City for two years.
She married Godfrey Hauser on April 4, 1942., He died on April 23, 1964. She married Otis Newman on Sept. 17, 1966. He died Nov. 25, 1991. She then married Peter Mouw on Dec. 1, 1995. He died July 7, 2002.
She was employed as an secretary, officer worker and bookkeeper for a number of commercial businesses. She was very proud of her secretarial and clerical abilities.
She was a longtime member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church and the Senior Citizen Center. She enjoyed playing cards. She also liked to travel, especially with her husband, Peter Mouw.
Survivors include a stepgranddaughter and her husband, Dodie and Eric Norby of Lawton, Iowa; two stepnieces and a nephew, Joanne and Bert McCain of Kingsley, Iowa, Doris and Curtis Oh of Kingsley and Marv and Dee Mouw of Sibley, Iowa; a cousin, Richard Brown of California; several other cousins; and close friends Roger and Anita Gaswint of Sioux City.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her three husbands.
