Ferne Norton, 98, of Sioux City died Sunday, Oct. 12, 2014, at Embassy Rehab and Care Center in Sergeant Bluff.
Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Graveside services will follow the visitation Thursday in Memorial Park Cemetery.
She was born on May 19, 1916, in Brewster, Minn., to Joe and Johanna (Jaansen) Zandstra and moved to Sioux City in 1920. Ferne attended Central High School.
She married George Robert Norton Jr. on Nov. 2, 1932.
She enjoyed painting, sewing and even made her daughter’s wedding dress.
Survivors include her daughters, Janice (James) Johnson of Madison, Wis., and Marilyn (Bill) Dermit of Sioux City; a son, Jon (Maureen) Norton of Salix, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; son, George Norton III; grandsons, James Johnson, Sammy Dermit, and Tom Norton; brothers, Nick, George, Harry, Otto, and Joe Zandstra; and sisters, Johanna Peterson, and Clara Urbanis.
