MOVILLE, Iowa -- Fidell Wadsworth Sr., 82, of Moville died Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, at his residence.
Fidell was born Sept. 8, 1926, at the Kessler Farm west of Dunlap, the son of Clyde Wilson and Flossie Annie (Kessler) Wadsworth. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on July 31, 1945, and served in the 25th Division "Tropic Lightning" of the 89th Battalion in Nara, Japan.
He married Erna Price on Aug. 9, 1948, in Ute, Iowa. In 1950, the couple moved to Dunlap and started farming for the George Gorham Farms in 1950. In 1957, they moved to the Climbing Hill, Iowa, area to farm. Fidell held other jobs while farming full time. He was employed at FMC in the Port Neal area, PACO, Armour Packing Co., and worked on construction of Interstate 29 in the 1950s. When he retired in 1989, the couple moved to Moville.
Fidell was a member of the American Legions in Dunlap and Oto, Iowa, as well as the Hindman-Steele Post of Hornick, Iowa. He loved to play cards, partake in horse racing and enjoyed having a great garden. He especially enjoyed his great-grandchildren.
Fidell is survived by his wife, Erna of Moville; a son and his wife, Fidell Jr. and Sheryl of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Marla and John Crichton of Moville, Carla and Jesse Johnson of Sioux City, and Annette and Tom Torgerson of Sioux City; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Della (Wayne) Nelson of Hartley, Iowa, Florence (Eddie) Crawford of Tallmadge, Ohio, and Ruth Ann (LeRoy) Deles Dernier of Jefferson City, Mo.; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bruce in 1953, Clarence in 1988 and William in 2008; and his sister, Alice Buter in 2005.
