Florence was born Aug. 28, 1922, in Sloan, Iowa, to Ambrose M. and Bernice Mae (Pilgrim) Chesley.
She was married to Clifford M. Colman in November 1951. Cliff passed away at the Sioux Falls (S.D.) Veterans Hospital in November 1974. The couple lived their married life in Sioux City. After Cliff's death, she moved back to her parents' home in order that she could be the caregiver for her mother. In her younger years, she delighted in her many child care roles. She was a babysitter for many families. She resided in Riverside after her mother's death. Her residence for the last several years had been at Sunrise Retirement Community.
Following her move to Riverside, she became a member of Riverside Lutheran Church. She enjoyed her many friends at the Senior Center and was a member of the center's Jolly Timers Band. She absolutely loved living at Sunrise. It was truly home. She enjoyed every aspect of Sunrise, the staff, friends and pets became her second family.
She is survived by a sister, Ella Malloy of Salix, Iowa; two brothers and their wives, Glenn and Mary of Sioux City and Don and Judy of Moville, Iowa; and many nephews, nieces and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Cliff; sisters and their husbands, Joyce and Jim Bressler, Lorraine and Paul Becker and Gladys and Bill Hoverman; and a brother-in-law, Paul Malloy.
The caring service provided by Sunrise staff to Florence has always been wonderful. Hospice of Siouxland was extremely personal and gave her the best possible attention. The family has been pleased that she was always treated royally.
