SIOUX CITY -- Florence Mae Smith, 97, of Sioux City died Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at Countryside Retirement Center.
Services will be 4 p.m. Friday at Tri-State Christian Church in South Sioux City. Graveside services will be noon Saturday in Walnut Grove Cemetery, Corning, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 p.m. until service time Friday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Florence was born Oct. 21, 1913, in Corning, Iowa, the daughter of Fay and Mildred (Wolfe) Gillet. She attended school and graduated from Corning High School.
Florence married Ralph M. Smith on Sept. 24, 1935 in Corning. They moved to Sioux City in 1942. Florence worked as a bookkeeper for several years and as a cashier at a grocery store. Ralph died on Jan. 9, 1997.
Florence was a member of Tri-State Christian Church, the church circle and the Bible Study group.
Survivors include her grandson, Kelly Frye; three great-grandchildren, Sydney Jo Frye of Redwing, Minn., Terren Morgan Frye of Eau Claire, Wis., Tawney Mae and Troy Hollister of Owatonna, Minn.; a great-great-grandson, Troy Hollister; a sister, Mary Hendrickson of Corning; a nephew, Dennis and Melinda Hendrickson of Des Moines; grandnephew, Bradon Hendrickson; and a grandniece, Kiersten Hendrickson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; her daughter, Barbara Frye.
