Forrest Eldon Blakely, 93, of Sioux City passed away Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2015, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Memorial services will be held at a later date at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.
Forrest was born on July 6, 1921, in Yankton, S.D., to Maurice C. and Alma (Puepke) Blakely. He graduated from East High in 1939. Forrest then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1941 to 1945.
He was united in marriage to Lila McGee on Dec. 29, 1948, in Sioux City. Forrest was a gas meter repairman for MidAmerican Energy Company for 37 years.
He was a former member of Morningside Presbyterian Church and was a union steward for the Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.
Those left to honor his memory include his wife, Lila of Sioux City; son, Stephen Blakely of Moab, Utah; sister, Phyllis J. Bennett of Sioux City; daughter-in-law, Marcia Blakely of Salix, Iowa; son-in-law, Michael (Barb) Vakulskas of Davenport, Iowa; grandchildren, Melanie (Steve) Pickering of Sioux City, Melissa (Zach) Streeter of Muscatine, Iowa, Todd (Meghan) Vakulskas of Alpharetta, Ga., Christopher (Miriam) Vakulskas of Gainesville, Fla., Scott Holden of Rawlins, Wyo., and Kara Holden of Craig, Colo.; nieces, Pama Bennett of Sioux City, and Linda (Bennett) Claerhout and her husband, Bob of Hudson, Wis.; and several great-grandchildren.
Forrest was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Douglas; his daughter, Lynette Vakulskas; and his brothers-in-law, Maynard Bennett and Eugene McGee.
