Frances "Fran" J. Short, 86, of Lawton died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, at her home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home in Sioux City. The Rev. Bruce Jackson of Bethel Lutheran Church will officiate. Burial will be in Lake Elsinore, Calif. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home.
Fran was born on June 5, 1929, in rural Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of Walter E. and Viola A. (Dicus) Short. Fran was raised in the Anthon area and graduated from Climbing Hill (Iowa) High School in 1947. She worked for the Sioux City Battery Company for many years. After the Battery closed, she moved to California where she worked for Moore Business Forms for 32 years. She retired in 1988. Fran returned to Lawton in 2005.
She was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lawton. Fran loved helping children's charities including the Shriner's Children's Fund, and Camp High Hopes. She also thought the Wounded Warrior's Fund was a very important charity. Fran loved to garden, do woodworking, puzzles and go to lunch with Deb. She was very patriotic and never missed voting. She also enjoyed visiting shut-ins and just helping others. She loved the Los Angeles Angels baseball team.
She is survived by her sisters, Alice Van Laningham of Sioux City, Lois Smith of Ida Grave, Iowa, Lorsey Vest of Orange City, Iowa, and Virginia and Robert Seitzinger of Moville, Iowa; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews; her special friends, Deb and Steve Lawrey of Sioux City and their children, Ryan and Megan, Rick & Rob, and Ryan's three children.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters, Phyllis Prather, Helen Washburn, Joyce Bolles, and Doris Rasmussen; and her brother, Donald Short.
The family wants to give a special thanks to Henry and Marilyn Danettel and the care givers of Hospice of Siouxland for all the love and care they gave to Fran.
Memorial may be given in Fran's name to Camp High Hope, Shriner's Children's Fund or the Wounded Warrior Program.
