SIOUX CITY | Gene Francis Miller, 65, of Sioux City died Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Morningside Presbyterian Church, with the Rev. David Koehler officiating. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Yankton Cemetery at Yankton, S.D. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Home.
Gene was born in Fort Hood, Texas on April 6, 1947. He was the son of Francis and Mary (Finders) Miller. His family lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Okinawa and Iowa because his father was in the Army. He lived in Storm Lake, Spirit Lake, Clear Lake and Spencer, Iowa. He graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls, S.D., in 1965 and USD in 1971 with a degree in business administration.
On June 8, 1973, he married Lynda Nadenicek in Yankton, S.D. He worked for the Yankton Savings and Loan and for a savings and loan in Marysville, Kan., and Fresno, Calif. He then worked as a systems analyst for McDonnell Douglas in Troy, Mich., Schwans in Marshall, Minn., and Great West Casualty in South Sioux City. He retired in 2011.
Gene was a member of the Morningside Presbyterian Church, where he played special music, served as an elder, served on the finance committee and served as the secretary for the Memorial Committee. Gene loved music and was a member of the Siouxland All America Concert Band, where he played trumpet and ran the website. He was musically gifted and he played the trumpet, guitar, banjo, ukelele, harmonica and many other instruments. He also loved fishing and camping with family and friends. Gene was big in size, big in spirit and big in life. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Lynda of Sioux City; his son, David of Sioux City; two brothers, Michael (Karen) and Mark (Candi), all of Yankton; mother-in-law, Marcene Nadenicek of Yankton; two brothers-in-law, Joe Nadenicek of Pierre, S.D., and Jon (Anna) Nadenicek of Brandon, S.D.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorials have been established in his name for the Siouxland All America Concert Band and the Morningside Presbyterian Church.
