Services will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Armand Bertrand officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. today at Morningside Chapel, Christy-Smith Funeral Homes.
Frank was born on June 19, 1924, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., the son of Francis J. and Cora Schaffer. He grew up and attended school in Mount Pleasant. Frank joined the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Sioux City.
It was in Sioux City that he met and married Unetta Metcalf on Dec. 28, 1946. They made their home here. Frank worked for KTIV for more than 23 years. Unetta died on Feb. 12, 1994.
Church and family were number one in Frank's life. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Frank enjoyed woodworking and, using his skills, he was involved at Trinity Heights and Immaculate Conception. He enjoyed going to coffee with his friends, fishing with the family in Canada, gardening (especially his roses), and golfing, scoring his only hole-in-one on his first day of retirement. Frank took great pride in the fact that while in the military, Sioux City was not invaded while he was stationed here.
